The 30 Day Traffic Secrets Challenge
I was given the opportunity to dive into the book Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers. I really hadn’t been focusing on my blog the way I wanted to so was excited to read about how Russell Brunson became successful and to take part in his 30 day challenge.
I was immediately intrigued when the first few chapters made note of how he started figuring out his customer’s needs back when he was selling potato guns. Yes, potato guns. How might a young fellow go from selling potato guns on DVD’s to becoming a best selling author…not to mention a CEO worth over $100 million?!
Seriously. This guy, Russell Brunson, pictured below has worked hard to gain a following of over a million entrepreneurs and is sharing his secrets with his readers. A little background on Russell: he created a company you have probably heard of, ClickFunnels, back in 2014, alongside his partner Todd Dickerson. It became one of the quickest non-venture backed software companies to ever grow – talk about success!
And in Traffic Secrets he shares what those secrets to his success are.
So let’s take a step back. Why do thousands of businesses, blogs, any type of business fails each year?
Because their customers don’t even know they exist.
This is a sad truth. For those like myself in the blogosphere, how do we go from being a consumer of media to a prominent producer?
By making sure your customers and readers can find you.
Tips That Last A Lifetime
One thing that I loved about reading this book from the getgo was that Russell mentions right away in Traffic Secrets that his goal is for this book to be evergreen – meaning if I pick this book up again in 10 years, while the platforms that he mentions may have changed…the overall “way to be successful” using his method will never change. That is huge – how many books are out there where you read them and you feel like you are dusting off dinosaur bones?
Health, Wealth, and Relationships
When you boil it down, your business is impacting one of the above three markets. I promise you it is true. When I started working through the challenge and this chapter, I didn’t think my blog fit into any of these categories really. Then, when I read further into why Russell is sure every business falls into one of those categories, it made sense. Mine is wealth since one of my foci is ways to save money.
When you strip your business down – what are you selling? This is imperative to being able to move to the next step of finding out where your customers are.

The Dream 100
Another huge takeaway I had was learning about “The Dream 100” where you are going to essentially write down your where your dream customers are hanging out at. This may be other websites, forums, etc.
I never really thought to spend time thinking about this but realistically, it makes sense, right? You need to really become one with your customer and hopefully you realistically are your dream customer – which makes it 10x easier! Once you have your list, you are one step closer to getting your dream customers to find you!
All About That Offer
Another crucial part of any business is what you are offering your customer. Once you have mastered finding your customer and getting them to come to you using the above strategies that are discussed in much more detail in the book, you may find your advertising campaigns aren’t working. Why? Well, you have a problem with either the “hook” you are using to try and get potential customers or readers brought in the door…the “story” where you really start to connect right before you “offer” them something they can’t refuse.
There are a ton of great examples of this in the book and exactly how to use the model effectively.
There have been many books that I have read that I can’t get past the first few pages without getting bored – that’s not this book. Realistically, Russell has mastered the “hook” of even writing a book in that he keeps the reader engaged because his tips and advice is very useful.
There are so many other a-ha moments that I had in realizing all of the things I’m doing wrong…or just haven’t been doing at all. While I finished the social media challenge and learned SO much, this book will certainly be one I pick up throughout the years to get a refresher on everything that I learned.
