Bath Bombs And Self Care

03.30.2019

This past Thursday was “one of those days.” I had been having a pretty rough sleep week (see Chronicles of an Insomniac) and Thursday was just an extremely long day. I was feeling mentally drained so told myself on my way home from work that it was going to be a bath bomb night.

I was then reading a fellow blogger’s post that evening on her self care routine (you can read it here! Hint: Bath bombs are a part of Kim’s routine, too) and realized that everyone has their own way to decompress and take care of themselves.

Sometimes you have those little things that brighten your mood (even just a bit) no matter what is going on. When you need a little TLC and are feeling blue, these “go to’s” can save the day.

For me, a few of those things are:

  • Chocolate Covered Strawberries
  • Gino’s – my favorite hometown pizza and pasta joint back in PA
  • Lush Bath Bombs

Unfortunately, I can’t always have those delicious strawberries or order me some delicious Gino’s at the drop of a dime. So my go to self care item is a bath bomb.

You see, I have a reserve.

A reserve of amazingly fragrant and aesthetically pleasing bath bombs from Lush. On days where my body and/or mind is sending out SOS flares, I pick whatever bath bomb speaks to me and let any stress, worry, or care fizz away.

Why Lush Bath Bombs?

I was in college the first time I had one of these heavenly little balls of joys. I was immediately hooked. And that is saying a lot given that they are mad expensive…I’m talking $6-9 per bath bomb. As I’m usually a thrifty gal, this probably sounds a bit counter-intuitive. But I firmly believe they are worth every penny and far superior to any other bath bomb I have tried. Spoiling yourself from time to time on things that truly make you happy is necessary. I’m not saying all the time…but every now and then. 🙂

A big reason I love this specific brand of bath bombs is due to the experience.

When you first drop a Lush bath bomb in, you will instantly see beautiful colors and are at times surrounded by the actual ingredients that the bath bomb is made out of, such as cornflowers or seaweed.

The fragrant aroma will fill the bathtub and you will instantly be overcome with a calming sensation.

I ordered this bath bomb, More Tea and Sympathy when I was ordering my current BBR (Bath Bomb Reserve) a couple of months back. I usually go with Over and Over, Dragon’s Egg, and Big Blue as my staples. However, I always like to check out what’s new and will try out any ones that I think I’d enjoy.

More Tea and Sympathy stood out to me because of the teacup shape and the ingredients: green tea absolute, bergamot and neroli oils

The tranquility I felt amidst this luxurious bath bomb was amazing. I was instantly surrounded by cornflowers and camellia petals, all while enjoying the intoxicating aromas that my bathtub was filled with.

Bath Bomb Fizz

It fizzled all the way down to a cute little tea bag within. I enjoyed my self created sanctuary and soon forgot everything I was stressed out about that day, if at least for the moment.

All in all, More Tea And Sympathy was a total winner in my books! So much so that I probably will be using this again the next time I have a day like this past Thursday.

Other Methods

Sometimes it is easier to pull yourself out of these spots than others but it is so important to find out what words for you. Little treats like this work like a charm on some days and other days, they might not.

That doesn’t mean you should only take care of yourself when you are feeling downtrodden. Make it a habit to give yourself some TLC even when all is going right for you.

If you are not into bath bombs, try other forms of self care to help your mind and body recharge.

Things like meditation, yoga, and journaling can do a world of good for the soul.

I use a meditation app called Headspace. It’s great for beginners or those who just want to incorporate daily meditations into their lives. Other apps, such as Insight Timer and Calm, are also very popular.

What types of self care do you practice? Does one method seem to help you more than others?

Thanks for the shout out lovely. 🙂 As you know, I love baths too, especially with a Lush bath bomb. I haven’t had chance to get any of their Spring collection yet but I love the look of this teapot! Lush always have such cute designs and the colours look great.

Absolutely! Yes, I am so excited to make my next round of bath bomb purchases here soon. If you get the teapot, too, you will have to let me know what you think!! 🙂
